California is infamous for its sunny days, warm weather, and amazing beaches. When it’s hot, most natives grab a towel, a swim suit, some sun block, a pack of friends, and head to the nearest sandy shore.
The Central California coast is a beautiful place to be, even though it’s not hot enough to lounge on the beach year-round, it is still sunny out and you can catch a warm autumn day here and there. Below are
Beach Butlerz’s favorite beach activities to be enjoyed when the weather cools.
1) BEACH BONFIRE. S’mores…need I say more? Not all beaches allow open fires, but it’s definitely worth looking into. Click
HERE to find out which beaches in California allow bonfires. Beach bonfires are a great way to entertain a group of friends, or to stay warm while enjoying the picturesque view. Who said bonfires are only good in the evening? Pack some hot dogs for a weenie-roast, and some marshmallows, chocolate, and graham crackers for a delicious sweet treat. Always make sure you put the fire out completely when you’re done.
2) SHELL SEARCHING. If you’re looking for a fun craft to do, or just a way to fill a couple hours during the day, shell searching on the shores is a great option. Throw on some jeans or sweats, roll up the bottoms, and stroll along the coastline to find sand dollars, shells, and unique rocks. Take them home to create one-of-a-kind works of art, holiday gifts (inexpensive wink wink), or put them in a jar for a fun table display.
3) JOG OR WALK ON THE BEACH. Grab a friend, or an i-Pod, and hit the sand! Brisk weather is perfect for exercising because you don’t get too hot, and the sand provides awesome resistance for a killer workout. Also, beach exercising when it’s gloomy is a great way to kick-start your day.
4) PICNIC OR ROMANTIC DATE. As long as you’re dressed for the weather, the beach is a perfect place to snuggle up with your family, friends, or loved one(s). Make sure to pack your favorite food (or beverage), and extra sweatshirts and blankets.
5) DOG PLAY! Many beaches, at least in Central California, allow dogs. Olde Port Beach in Avila Beach is one of them. Grab your pup and some of his favorite toys and take to the sand. You can go solo, or take the whole family, to enjoy this one!
6) BEACH VOLLEYBALL. Need we say more. Sheer fun, even if you can't play well. ;)
Now you’ve got some ideas of ways to enjoy the beach when summer goes away. The sun will be back eventually, but in the meantime, enjoy everything else our wonderful surroundings have to offer!
